My mother had flown over from Abu Dhabi, where she currently lives so I jumped at the chance to take her out for the day. I've been meaning to try Galvin La Chapelle for ages but at the disappointment of Galvin at Windows, I put in on the back burner. I'm glad to say it was far better and much more deserving of a Michelin Star.

First Course - Duck Liver Parfait, Pickled Mushrooms, Puffed Rice

This was delightful, the parfait was so smooth with a wonderful richness. The acidity of the mushrooms and crunchiness of the puffed rice were a perfect accompaniment.

Second Course - Grilled Mackerel, Grelot Onions, Pickled Shallots

A simple combination of a few ingredients that delivered on flavour.

Third Course - Sea Bass Fillet, Broccoli, Potato

The fish was cooked to perfection and the potato balls gave a nice crunch to the dish.

Fourth Course - Pork Belly, Carrots, Pomme Puree

This was my favourite dish of the evening, so incredibly moreish. The pork was so juicy and the various textures of carrot (roasted, pickled, puree), were a brilliant match,

Fifth Course - Fourme d’ambert, Pickled Walnut Purée, Grapes & Celery

A strong, rich cheese that paired well with the walnut.

Sixth Course - Gariguette Strawberry Tart, Lemon Curd & Black Pepper Meringue

Simple, sweet and a perfect way to finish the evening.

Overall, the food was very good but the service was disappointing. We had to wait far too long for our wine to arrive then subsequently be topped up and had to ask for water twice. It just wasn't what you'd expect at a Michelin star restaurant, particularly when there seemed to be a high number of staff working that evening. However, the company couldn't have been better and although I wouldn't jump at the chance to go back, I wouldn't be adverse to the idea either.
